what is
quarterback draw football

QDF is a simulated football game that brings excitement from the novice to the avid football fan. QDF can be played as a board game, on the QDF table, and online with a card deck. Not just any card deck, but the specialized QDF card deck (Run, Pass, Field Goal/Extra Point, and Punt).

The game is played with two players online, but up to six players or Quarterbacks (QBs) are on the table. With the table, QBs can play as individuals or on teams. So that everyone gets in the game, all QBs act as game officials. The goal of each QB or team is to have the highest score at the end of the game.

why play
the game

Football is a popular sport consisting of a group of eleven offensive or defensive players on a field working on scoring or stopping a goal from reaching the opposing team’s endzone. By playing QDF, you learn the fundamentals of the game quickly.

Here’s a descriptor of specific positions and gameplay found in the game:

THE PLAYERS

The Quarterback, the most critical position on the field, is the player who throws the ball or passes it to other players. He is responsible for reading the defense and finding the open receivers.

The offensive linemen are a group of 5 players that line up directly in front of the QB. Their job is to protect him under pressure and open holes for the backs to run through.

Running backs are the players who get the ball in their hands and run with it. They are responsible for getting the ball past their last starting point and ensuring the defense doesn’t stop them.

Wide receivers are the players who catch the ball after it’s thrown. They possess the ball and take it to the end zone.

Tight ends are the players who block defenders and catch passes from the Quarterback.

Defensive linemen are the group that lines up directly across from the offensive line. Their job is to rush the passer and force the Quarterback out of the pocket.

you ARE IN control
gameplay

Gameplay is on a rectangular field where the object is to get the oval-shaped football down the field by running or passing it from the QB to the other players. The goal is to get the football into the opponent’s end zone. At the professional and collegiate level, game time consists of two halves or four quarters of 15 minutes each with a limited number of timeouts per team.

THE ACTION

A down occurs when the ball is in motion from a snap to the Quarterback or kicker. A down ends when an official declares down the ball or the player in possession of the ball. When the team has control of the football, their offense will have four downs to move the football 10 yards. Start over if the offensive team gains 10 yards or more than the downs. The opposing team gets possession of the football if they do not earn 10 yards within four tries. If they fail on the fourth attempt, the other team gains possession of the ball at the spot where it last went down. A team may decide to punt (kick) the ball on their fourth try to get it as far away from the opponent’s goal as possible.

To score a touchdown, some portion of the ball must cross the opposing team’s goal line while it has an offensive player or a designated kicker who kicks the ball between the goalpost and above the endzone crossbar. A “safety” occurs if the opponent travels back into their endzone.
